Virginia "Virgie" Reiss, age 89, was born April 25th, 1937, and passed away on May 7th, 2026. She was born in Redlands, California. Her parents were Calletano and Sarah Candelaria. She had 6 brothers and 10 sisters. She is survived by 2 sisters, Irma Requejo and Rachel Stamper, and 1 brother, David Candelaria.
Virgie married Paul Reiss in 1955. They were married until Paul's passing in 2021. They have 2 daughters, Marie Alexander and Cindy (Rick) Chavez and 3 sons, Paul Jr., Johnny and Ricky, who preceded her in death.
Virgie worked at the Redlands Laundry for 17 years and the laundry at Loma Linda Hospital. She then went to work for the Redlands School District. She was assigned to Lugonia School as a Yard Monitor and then as a Teacher's Aide. She retired after 20 years. Many of her former students would stop her to say hello even after many years.
Virgie has always loved Mexican music. As a young woman she loved singing with Marachi's. Of course her favorite song was "Volver, Volver."
Virgie has spent many years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She donated a lot of time cooking and making everyone's favorite salsa.
In her later years, Virgie enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friends. She had a large group of friends that would meet for sometimes a 3 hour lunch at different restaurants every month. She would laugh and make others laugh. She will deeply, deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5th, 2026, at the American Legion Post 650 from 11:00am to 5:00pm. It will be a Potluck lunch.
