Sandra "Sandy" Hinerman passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on December 26, 1941, Sandy spent most of her life in Redlands, California, a community she loved and proudly called home. She graduated from Pacific High School in 1959 before attending Arizona State University. She later earned her bachelor's degree and teaching credential from California State University, San Bernardino, beginning a career dedicated to helping others.

Sandy taught special education in the Riverside Unified School District for more than 25 years. She was deeply committed to her students and their success, earning the distinction of Teacher of the Year in the 1990s. Her patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in every child's potential left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues.

In 1962, Sandy married the love of her life, Ivan Hinerman. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, adventure, and treasured memories. They enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Sandy had a lifelong love of animals and rarely went without a beloved dog by her side. She also believed in giving back to her community and generously volunteered her time as a proud member of the Assistance League of Redlands and the Redlands Red Hat Society. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others were hallmarks of her life.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ivan Hinerman, and by her son, Scott Lee Hinerman. She is survived by her son, Scott Fishel, and his wife, Cathy, along with their children and grandchildren.

Above all else, Sandy treasured her family, her friends, and the countless students whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her dedication to education, her adventurous spirit, and her quiet generosity. Whether she was in the classroom, volunteering in her community, caring for her beloved dogs, or exploring the world with Ivan, Sandy approached life with kindness, grace, and an open heart. Her legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
