Cherry Valley

Roy Leslie Bolyarde, born Roy Downs in Redlands, California, entered this world on January 10, 1955, to Lula and Orbie Downs. After the loss of his father in 1957, Roy was lovingly raised by Nolan Bolyarde, whom his mother married when Roy was just five years old. Roy proudly carried the Bolyarde name throughout his adult life.

Roy passed away on October 8, 2025, in Cherry Valley, California. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many communities whose lives he touched. Roy had a gift for connection; he could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like a lifelong friend within minutes. His laughter was contagious, and his presence lit up every room he entered.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents: Orbie Downs, Lula Bolyarde, and Nolan Bolyarde; his father-in-law, Robert McAllister; and his siblings, Eddie Downs and Betsy Downs.

Roy is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Cherie Bolyarde, and their children: Keith Parish, Christina Casey (Dennis Casey), Kelly Downs, Jenna Bolyarde, Daniel Bolyarde, Chandra Marcoux (Craig Marcoux), and Ian Bolyarde. He is also survived by his sister, Margi Hargan; his mother-in-law, Betty McAllister; and his brother-in-law, Robert Scott McAllister. Roy leaves behind a legacy of 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Roy loved deeply, cared genuinely, and lived wholeheartedly for the people around him. Roy was a passionate advocate and sponsor within the Alcoholics Anonymous community, offering unwavering support to countless individuals navigating recovery. Whether through a listening ear or a helping hand, he gave whatever he could, big or small.

Roy was an avid enthusiast of anything with wheels and a motor. He could fix almost anything, and if he couldn’t, he knew someone who could. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Los Angeles Rams, and loved a good poker tournament. Above all, he loved his wife and his God. He lived life with a spirit of service to others and a heart inspired by trust and love. Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate the life he lived and the love he left behind. Roy’s spirit will forever ride beside us.
