Robert Leonard Stangl, age 59, went to heaven on November 12, 2021, at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, California. Robert was born on April 28, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin. Robert (affectionately called Bob) was a graduate of La Crosse University, Wisconsin majoring in Micro and Macro Economics with a concentration in Sports Medicine. Bob became a Certified Athletic Trainer from the same university and interned with the Green Bay Packers. He moved to California in 1986 and was employed with Household Financial Services (HFC) later HSBC for almost 30 years. Bob would annually dress up like Santa bringing joy to the local foster children that were brought to the company to receive Christmas gifts. He made it a point to keep in contact with his many friends from work after retirement. He was always thinking of others and wanted to maintain these friendships.
Bob became a substitute teacher as a second career, teaching with the Colton Joint Unified School District in 2015 until his last day of his passing. He was considered the resident substitute teacher for Ruth O. Harris Middle School and Bloomington High School where students highly respected him and were excited to see him be in their class. They cheerfully welcomed him when he took any subject since he was not only very knowledgeable but also a very patient instructor. His gentleness with students with disabilities made him a favorite as well.
Bob was an incredible husband, daddy, and absolute best friend to his wife and daughters. He and his wife,Yvette, met at HFC, and had just celebrated 32 years of marriage. He was an ever present daddy with his four daughters (Sarah, Elizabeth, Anna, Catherine), taking every opportunity to share his undivided attention to each one, teaching them skills from baking bread, painting bedroom walls, to repairing practically anything. Baking and mailing out traditional German Christmas cookies was a big deal in the household with Daddy. Every opportunity was a moment to share his love with his girls. He became a father-in-law to Andrew, enjoying having a son in the family. As a brother, he led by example showing how important it was to keep family close, keeping in contact with his siblings that lived in other states. He was an extraordinary example of our heavenly Father's love.
He was a dedicated servant of God, exuding Christ's love wherever and with whomever he interacted with. He never hesitated to help anyone and took much pleasure in sharing his knowledge from faith to finances. He was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fontana for over 30 years in may various ministries: baptism coordinator, prayer group leader, lector, Eucharistic minister, Building Committee member, Fiesta Coordinator, and so much more. As a baptism coordinator, he would say that the greatest gift parents could give their child is the gift of eternal life.
Quote from a friend (Laura A. Jacobo)
Our marriage group this week is about leaving a godly legacy for generations to come. As we are preparing this morning, my heart is so broken about the sad news I heard last night. Our friend, Bob Stangl, passed away. Bob was an amazing man, a loving husband, father, and faithful servant. Bob is leaving a godly legacy, not only for his daughters, but for many of us who knew and loved him. His marriage to Yvette is what I admired most. He always treated her as if she was the most precious jewel in the box, which she was. Looking back, the person he showed was Jesus Christ's image in every way. They were the first marriage I knew that was exactly what God wants us to be. I'm so thankful for them both and the everlasting impact they had on my life. Bob, you will be missed, but I know you are resting in our Father's arms and I'm sure His words "Well done good and faithful servant" is what you heard as you entered the kingdom of heaven.
Bob was preceded by his parents Gretchen and Leonard Stangl.
Bob is survived by his wife, Yvette, their four daughters, Sarah (Mardani-Kamali) Stangl and husband Andrew, Elizabeth Stangl, Anna Stangl, and Catherine Stangl. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Deau and husband Tom; and brother, Tim Stangl.
