Patricia Giddings Emmerson, 92, formerly of Hemet, California, died August 23, 2012, in Redlands. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Patricia and her family moved to Oakland, California, when she was six weeks old. She attended Pacific Union College in the Napa Valley, where she met her future husband, Clinton Emmerson. Following graduation in 1941, they married and moved to the bay area where Clinton studied dentistry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons and Patricia taught English and Spanish at Golden Gate Academy. In 1961, as a member of the first graduating class, she earned a degree in dental hygiene from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, where she later worked as a part time instructor. She joined her husband's dental practice on their ranch in Hemet where they lived and practiced until their retirement in 2005. For many years, Patricia volunteered in local schools providing dental screenings and education. She was active in Easter Seals of Riverside County, the Rancho California Arabian Horse Club, and the Ramona Bowl Music Association. In 2005, she was honored as the Loma Linda University Dental Hygiene Alumna of the Year. Patricia was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Clinton Emmerson. She is survived by son, Bill Emmerson (Nan); daughter, Sharon Lemons; and three grandchildren, Kate Brinton, Caroline Chatigny, and Clayton Lemons, all of Redlands. Visitation will be at Emmerson-Bartlett Mortuary in Redlands on Thursday evening, September 6, from 5:00 - 7:00. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7, at Emmerson-Bartlett. Memorials may be made to the Department of Dental Hygiene, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California 92350, or to the Ramona Bowl Association, 27400 Ramona Bowl Road, Hemet, California 92544.
