Mercedes Torrez

June 22, 1959 ~ August 28, 2023

It is with great sorrow that the Torrez Family announces that their beloved wife, mother, and grammy Mercedes Torrez passed away on Monday, august 28, 2023. She was born in Los Angeles, California on June 22, 1959, to the late Arturo Muniz and Adele Penso. Mercedes had 4 siblings. Her two older siblings, Rose Lopez and Yolanda Garcia who have passed, and she has now joined in the kingdom of our Lord and Savior and two younger siblings Violet Jimenez and Arthur Garcia who are mourning her and will miss her every day.

Mercedes dedicated her life to her family and is survived by her loving husband, Frank, her three daughters, Deserie, Selina and Victoria, and her two sons, Frank and Philip. She was a loving grammy to her 10 Grandchildren who loved and adored her, Destinee, Kasaya, Roman, Dayja, Denay, Nathan, Frankie, Adrain, Stacy and Mercy.

She married her soulmate who she met at the age of 15 and were together for 48 years. They had five children together. They began their lives together in Huntington Park, California for half of their lives and moved to the Inland Empire in 2001 where she lived for remainder of her life.

She was not only a mother to her kids but a second mother figure to her nieces and nephews, and to many others who had the privilege of knowing her. Being such a selfless person, Mercedes always made it a priority to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives by attending every award ceremony and all their sport events.

When she wasn’t busy being all of those things you could catch her humming around the house or in bed late night snacking and watching her soap operas with Frank. Sending late night or early 2am text messages to her children. Always reassure her children how important and worthy they all were.

A woman who never let her family down unfortunately broke all of our hearts with her passing as she stood so strong trying to hold on, we will never be the same again without her light in our lives. We will honor her by continuing to be strong and let her live through all of us so that’s she’s never forgotten.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 29th at the Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel located at 703 Brookside Avenue, Redlands, CA 92373. There will be a viewing between the hours of 9:00am – 11:00am with the service starting at 11:00am. We will proceed to Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Road, Redlands, CA immediately following the service.

2 Timothy 7-8

I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness, judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
