Matthew Eric Schoenmann

Matthew (Matt) Eric Schoenmann was born and raised in Redlands and continued living there most of his life. Matt was an amazing human being who shined a light on every person who knew him, whether someone he met briefly at a concert, his friends, students, or family. We are all better for having had Matt in our lives.

 Matt loved music of all genres and went to concerts and festivals whenever possible. Phish, Ween, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and the Grateful Dead were among his favorites. He also loved watching soccer and other sports. The LA Dodgers, Lakers and Oakland Raiders were his favorite teams. 

Matt graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 2003 with a degree in mass communication/media studies. He loved journalism. After working for the Press Enterprise and freelancing as a video reporter for high school football games, he found his calling working in the journalism department at Riverside City College. Working with students on Viewpoints, the school newspaper, filled him with pride. He loved sharing his knowledge and watching his students discover their own love of digging deeper, getting stories, and taking the perfect picture to enhance the story. 

Matt is preceded in death by his mother Monica (Moni) Martinez Schoenmann. He is survived by his father, Nick Schoenmann, sister, Kristen Schoenmann De Haan (Rob), niece, Irene De Haan, nephew, Rhys De Haan, longtime girlfriend, Molly Davis, her children Violet and Bennett Ellis, and his brother, Jeremy McRae
