In Loving Memory of our Mariyon Marquiz Escobia
“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mariyon Marquiz Escobia, known affectionately as "Mar" or "Marquiz," who returned to the arms of the Lord on February 15, 2026, at the age of 20. After a courageous and selfless three-and-a-half-year battle with DSRCT cancer, Mariyon was not defeated; rather, he was freed from his suffering to find eternal peace.
A Life of Brilliance and Bravery
Born on October 29, 2005, in Redlands, California, Mariyon was a bright light from the very beginning. He was the beloved son of Nimar and Frances Escobia, and Manelli Aldana. His spiritual journey began early when he was baptized Catholic at five months old at St. Edith Stein in Katy, Texas. As a child, Mariyon was defined by his boundless curiosity. He was the kid who always asked "why?" and "how?", once even wearing his playfulness as a badge of honor after an adventurous mishap on the monkey bars. That inquisitive spirit evolved into a sharp, analytical mind. At Lied Stem Academy middle school, he played the bass guitar. At Cimarron-Memorial High School, Mariyon excelled as a scholar, tackling a rigorous schedule of AP Calculus, Anatomy, and US History, while sharing his musical talents on the saxophone in the Honors Band.
A Gentle Soul
Though he was a quiet introvert, Mariyon’s personality spoke volumes. He was incredibly selfless, brave, and smart—always willing to help others before thinking of himself. When he wasn’t excelling in the classroom, he found joy in the vibrant worlds of Anime and his passion for video games, interests that stayed with him throughout his life. Above all else, Mariyon’s greatest passion was his family. He cherished every moment spent surrounded by those he loved.
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
— Revelation 21:4
Family
Mariyon’s legacy of love lives on through his devoted parents, Nimar & Frances Escobia and Manelli Aldana; his loving sister, Maarja Escobia; and his brothers, Maani Escobia, Marcial Escobia III, and Donell Jackson. He will be deeply missed by his extended family in Las Vegas and California (everywhere), friends, The BCBP community prayer warriors, doctors, and staff in Cure For The Kids Foundation, Summerlin Hospital, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and all who were touched by his quiet strength.
