Leonardo (Leonard) Hernandez, a proud veteran of the United States Army, peacefully passed away on October 31, 2025. He was 94 years old.
At the age of 17, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1948 to 1952 and received an honorable discharge. As part of his service, he received the "Korean Service Medal with 3-Bronze Service Stars" and the "United Nations Service Medal Korea".
The oldest son of Trinidad and Carmen Hernandez, Leonard was born on July 21, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of Highland CA.
Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Angela, his parents and his brother. He is survived by his sister Cecilia Guerra, his sister-in-law Herminia Hernandez, four nephews and three nieces.
He will be remembered as a proud service member. In his younger years, he loved to camp, fish and hunt with family and friends. Later in life, he was a frequent casino patron and loved his junkyard dogs.
His family has organized a memorial service to honor Leonard’s life and military service, which will be held at Jerry L. Pettis VA Medical Center, 11201 Benton St. Loma Linda, CA, Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 5:00 pm.
He will be laid to rest on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd. Riverside, CA at 10:15 am.
