John V. Ortiz, 92 of Redlands, CA, peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026 surrounded by loved ones, after a diffcult battle with cancer.
John was born on May 7, 1934 to Timo and Nellie in the city of Plascenia. John worked as a citrus farm worker with his father for a number of years. Then he went on to work at Norton Air Force Base as a mechanic for 10 years. John eventually moved on to the Redlands Unifed School District as a Lead Custodian at RHS. John was passionate about fishing, hunting and loved spending time with his family camping.
In 1949, he met Mary and married her in 1952 and went on to have 6 kids, Yolanda, Eleanor, Linda, Margie, Rachel and John Jr. John retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. While retired John had time to pursue his love of fishing, hunting and spending summers at his cabin in Duck Creek, Utah.
John was predeceased by his parents, 3 siblings, wife Mary, his daughters Yolanda, Eleanor, Rachel and son John Jr.
He is survived by his daughters Linda and Margie, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
