Jenice “Niece” (Thacker) Hale

November 10, 1950 – June 4, 2023

Jenice “Niece” (Thacker) Hale, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed over peacefully and gracefully with the setting sun on June 4, 2023 at the age of 72. Born on November 10, 1950 in Vivian, Louisiana, Jenice was the daughter of George Harold Thacker and Mary Frances Wood.

Jenice is survived by her two loving daughters, Heather L. Cavel and Sara K. Jacobson, their husbands, Paul Cavel and Emanuel Jacobson, grandson, Rio T. Jacobson, the light and joy of his grandma’s lifetime, sisters (and their husbands) Joyce and David Gosney, Janie “Sam” Burns, Jill and Gregg Rosner, Jody and Tony Kuendig, and brother, Perry “Peppy” Thacker, all of whom reside in Southern California.

Jenice was preceded in her passing by her parents, sister and friend, Jackie Nares, and brother, Jerry Thacker.

Jenice was a banker, most notably at Redlands Federal Bank for more than 30 years, and she finished her professional career in the High Desert in 2010. Her love for children led her to later work for the Redlands Unified School District, including as a volunteer serving food to parents in need, where she resided in California until her retirement in 2021.

Children gravitated to “Miss Jenice,” as she was known at school, and she had a special way with young children, always telling them straight and giving them encouragement. She maintained and nurtured the bonds she made with her many nieces and nephews throughout her lifetime.

Jenice was a loyal family member and friend, and if you were either, you would have had a few good swims with her. She loved the water and created many memories hanging out poolside that her friends and family will cherish.

Always a lady, Jenice sang, she danced and she teased with all who knew her, especially her Rio. Her beauty, her strong, directed spirit, her infectious laugh, her welcoming hellos and tender goodbyes will be missed dearly.

Jenice’s family and friends will celebrate her life in a private gathering on June 18, 2023 in Redlands, California.
