Janice Lynn Ryden (nee Christian) passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 17, 2026 after a long illness. Janice was born in DeQueen, Arkansas on July 27, 1940. At just a year old, her family moved to Southern California to pursue a better life; she always considered herself a lifelong Californian. Janice graduated from Whittier High School where she met her husband of 55 years, Karl Ryden. She spent the early years of her marriage as a stay-at-home parent to their three children. She was particularly active with her daughters in Girl Scouts, and the San Fernando Valley Girl Scout Council. In her thirties, Janice began working in a clerical position at the University of California, Los Angeles. Many promotions later, she would retire in her 60’s as an accountant for the UCLA School of Engineering.

Janice was a skilled home chef and wine connoisseur; she loved nothing more than hosting family and friends for dinner parties and holidays. Her family cherishes the time at her table, with good food and lively conversation. She was an accomplished seamstress, making the most beautiful prom dresses. Later in life, she discovered quilting and enjoyed attending quilting camps with her daughter-in-law. Janice had always wanted to travel, so after retirement she and Karl traveled the world, from London and Paris to more remote locations like the Galapagos.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband Karl Ryden; her parents, Horcel and Leola Christian, and her brother Robert Christian. She is survived by her children, Keith (Lenore), Susan, and Katherine (Jeff); five grandchildren, Julie (Jim), Scott (Lisa), Paige (Chris), Morgan, and Claire; and five great grandchildren, Mia, Levi, Nina, Evelyn, and Sloane.
