Howard E. Eden died July 7, 2025 shortly after moving to Mission Commons in Redlands. He was 77. He lived with his family on a ten acre lot in the Crafton area of Redlands in a home that his grandfather built. His grandfather developed the large lot into a citrus orchard.
Howard attended Crafton School, Redlands Junior High and graduated Redlands High in 1965. He was drafted into the Army and completed basic training at Fort Ord. He was ordered to Berlin, Germany and joined a special spit-and-shine NATO unit that paraded throughout Europe.
Completing military service, Howard returned to Crafton and joined Tom Atchley, a neighbor family friend in researching Redlands history for the newly formed Redlands Area Historical Society. The two-some spent hours researching and indexing Redlands' first newspaper, The Citrograph (1887-1908). In 1975, The Historical Society began Heritage Awards for area homes. Howard and Tom researched and wrote the first award citations for the first half decade of awards.
To settle the family estate, Howard moved from the Crafton area to Yucaipa where he and friend, Dave Ruiz, lived for 39 years.
Howard had a keen interest in the major sports that were broadcasted on television. Also, his enjoyment of sports led him to coach for over 20 years boys' t-ball and girls' softball and soccer.
Howard's work experience included managing a strawberry property near Santa Barbara. He also worked for the Morongo Casino for approximately ten years.
Howard was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Phyllis Eden and his brother Gordon H.
