Redlands

Gilbert "Jerry" Honesto Perez, a beloved soul and shining light in the lives of many, was born on September 30, 1932, in Redlands, California. After 92 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories, he passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife, Evalina Roque Perez, with whom he shared a remarkable 71 years of marriage.

The son of the late Jose R. Perez and Ester Honesto Perez, Gilbert, affectionately known as Jerry, was more than just a name; he represented kindness, warmth, and an unwavering spirit. He spent over thirty years dedicated to serving the City of Redlands as a Water Line Specialist, a role that highlighted not only his commitment to his community but also his tireless work ethic and problem-solving skills. In each task, he approached challenges with curiosity, a hallmark of his vibrant personality.

From a young age, Jerry was infused with a love for nature and adventure. He and his brothers, cousins, and friends would roam the orange groves, hills, canyons, and valleys surrounding their hometown, creating a treasure trove of memories in what was truly their playground. This wonder for the natural world was nurtured by his grandparents and great-grandmother, Magdalena Leon Honesto, instilling in him a lifelong appreciation for the beauty that surrounded him.

Jerry's life was also marked by his honorable service in the United States Army during the Korean War. As a Private First Class (PFC), he was proud to serve his country, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and UN Service Medal, honoring his commitment and dedication to duty.

His legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evalina, and their children: Debra Taylor (Shawn), Gilbert J. Perez, Julie Perez, and Paul Perez. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren — Erica Jacobsen (Matt), Erin Hagstrom (Brendan), Devin Hagstrom, Zachary Perez, Noah Perez, and Caleb Perez — and great-grandfather to Adam Hagstrom Garvey and Edith Hagstrom Garvey. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Honesto Perez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Those fortunate enough to know Gilbert "Jerry" will remember his infectious smile and hearty laughter. He had an innate ability to brighten the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Jerry found joy in his family, relished working in his yard, and delighted in tinkering with broken items, always looking for ways to repurpose and solve puzzles. His stories, captivating and filled with life lessons, of growing up in the Inland Empire and the locale that shaped him, will resonate through generations.

As we reflect on Jerry's journey through this world, we celebrate a life that was unequivocally marked by love. His spirit, warmth, and unwavering affection for family and friends will live on in the hearts of many.
