Gerold Buss peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on March 16, 2026, after battling cancer.
Born on March 9, 1943, to his parents, Bernhard and Katarina Buss, from Germany. Gerold was born in Tokyo, Japan; he was one of six children. His parents were missionaries in the 1930's-1940's. His early life was in Japan, followed by Canada, and finally settling in Yucaipa, CA, where he spent the rest of his life. Gerold was actually part of the first graduating class of Yucaipa High School in 1961.
In 1963, he became a proud U.S. citizen, and in 1964, he joined the Army Reserve, where he proudly served for 6 years as a cook during the Vietnam War. He was recognized as a "sharp shooter," and before his honorable discharge (1970), he was ranked as a "specialist."
In 1979, Gerold met the love of his life: Kathleen, who has been his wife for 47 years. They raised their four beautiful daughters, Janette, BethAnn, Shannon, and Katie. For over 50 years, he was a dedicated "master carpenter, from where he retired in 2008.
Later in life, he discovered another true love: "camping and fishing." They created so many wonderful memories and fun adventures.
Gerold is preceded in death by his parents, father, Bernhard, mother, Katarina, and two brothers, Seigfried and Berhard. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, their four daughters, and their seven grandchildren, two brothers, Reinhard and Deitrich, and his sister, Dorothy.
Gerold is and will continue to be greatly missed.
