On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, Donald “Don” James Schroeder, beloved husband, father, and gSrandfather passed away at the age of 71.
Don was born on December 13, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Harold and Marian Schroeder. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University in Chicago in 1969. After serving in the Naval Corps of Engineers, as a Lieutenant JG in the Seabees, he earned a Master of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1975. He spent a majority of his career employed by CDM Smith where he retired as a vice president in 2012.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Lee Winkler, with whom he raised three children, John (CC), Patrick and Elizabeth. In 2005, he married Pamela Joyner Harper and became a father to Holly and Winry Diana.
Don served throughout the community of Redlands. He volunteered with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and AYSO Soccer, and served on the board of the Redlands East Valley YMCA. He loved singing, having sung in the Community Chorus of Redlands, the Musica Viva choir as well as St. Dunstan’s choir at his home church, Trinity Episcopal Church. An active member of Trinity, Don served on the vestry, twice as a Senior Warden, and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Most recently he served as the lead person on the major renovation of the Great Hall of Trinity. Don was legendary for his storytelling, especially at Trinity Church Camp where he was known for the Bear Hunt story. He was an ardent walker having walked every street in Redlands, Yucaipa, East Highland, Beaumont, and Banning. He loved to travel, swim, play golf, and to spend time with his family. Don was a friend to all: humble, gentle, outgoing, loving, warm, and generous with dry sense of humor, and a love for life.
Don is survived by his wife Pam, his five children, John (CC), Patrick, Elizabeth, Holly Brawner (Joshua), Winry Diana Poe, and his four grandsons, Owen Schroeder, Isaac Schroeder, Harper Brawner and Hudson Brawner. He is also survived by his sister Peggy (Steve) Wing.
