Deloris Elaine Koller
November 7, 1925 ~ August 12, 2021
Deloris Koller was born in Garner, Iowa on December 7, 1925 on her grandfather’s farm. She lived in Lu Berne, Iowa and then they moved to Waterloo, Iowa. As a girl, she attended a Lutheran parochial school for her primary grades and then went to public high school.
Deloris married Elwood Holdridge on January 16, 1942. They moved around a lot and finally settled in California. Most of the locations were urban or rural area.
As a mother, Deloris would make do with whatever she had available. She raised chickens for eggs and meat. She butchered her own chickens. She also made bread and doughnuts for her children to sell to the neighbors.
Deloris was a talented seamstress making clothes for her children. She said that it was easier to make dresses than boys shirts. She was very thrifty with the money she had for food and clothes. She could make a dollar stretch a long way.
One thing she did not like was mice. She would catch and dispose of them very fast. The phrase “Catch & Release” was never in her mind.
Deloris could not be buffaloed by auto mechanics either. She understood the car’s many functions.
