Betty Jean Walsh

Betty Jean Walsh, beloved mother, friend, and lifelong learner, passed away peacefully on April 12 at the age of 79. Born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, on May 23, 1945, Betty brought warmth, strength, and grace to all who knew her.

She spent her early years in Arkansas before moving to California, where she attended Redlands High School. Betty pursued her passion for education and service, earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Riverside, and her master’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino. After several years working as a substitute teacher and librarian, Betty became a certified teacher in the Fontana Unified School District, where she taught for more than a decade. In the years following her work with Fontana U.S.D., Betty lovingly and diligently cared for her mother during her mother’s twilight years.

Betty will be remembered for her deep compassion, her unwavering support for her family, and her love of learning. She had a passion for running—a discipline she embraced with joy and determination. Whether through neighborhood jogs or organized races, running was a source of health, clarity, and peace. As she grew older, Betty’s love of movement continued through long walks, which she approached with the same appreciation for the world around her. She touched many lives through her kindness, intelligence, and gentle spirit.

She will also be remembered for her deep faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She lived her faith fully and faithfully. Up until her final day, just weeks before turning 80, Betty remained committed to keeping and promoting the commandments of God.

She is survived by her children—Kevin, Kenneth, and Sheila Walsh—who will carry on her legacy of kindness and her deep appreciation for learning. Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of her life will be held on April 12, 2025, at The ARK Redlands Church of the Nazarene.
