Beatrice Fong passed away in her sleep on June 5, 2025 at age 93 in Redlands, CA. Known to friends and family as “Bea” or “Gahgie,” she was a happy and energetic woman who always brought smiles and laughter to everyone. Bea considered both San Francisco, CA and Bakersfield, CA as her hometowns. Bea and her late husband Dick were married for 68 years and lived together in San Francisco, Oakland, and Redlands, raising a family and enjoying time with their grandchildren. She is survived by Jon and Ling, David, Michael, her grandchildren Jun, Caroline, Joli, and Kit, and by an enormous extended family including her sister Mary Jane, her brother Greg, and their families.
Bea and Dick shared a love of family, travel, and food. They traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada, and also made trips to destinations such as Hong Kong, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, the Netherlands, and France. They shared many trips and dining experiences with cousin Pam and her late husband Roger.
In addition to raising a family, Bea worked at Bank of America, was a school-aide in Oakland, and volunteered with the PTA. She and Dick were among the founding members of the Oakland Soccer Club. Bea was an excellent cook and extremely gifted at crafting projects including crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Dick was rarely seen without his signature sweater knitted by Bea. Friends and family fondly recall receiving gifts of her home-baked Christmas cookies and apricot pineapple jam! Bea was a giving woman with a big heart. She is missed but will always be remembered.
