ALBERT ATANAY, 94 years old went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January, 17, 2021.
He was born 4-12-26 in Los Angeles California, the son of Ignacio & Eliza (Aguilar) Atanay.
He was a Rifleman in the WWII 96th Infantry Division called the Dead Eyes. He was wounded 5-14-45 in Okinawa & awarded the Purple Heart.
His Infantry Division received a Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary Heroism in Military Operations against an armed enemy.
Albert was a brave & loyal soldier.
He met his wife 51 years ago while deep sea fishing on the Pacific Ocean. It was a great catch for both of them.
He is survived by his wife, Janice (Kelley) Atanay, daughter Cindy (Bob) Cain, Granddaughters Andrea & Courtney Brewer (Courtneys fianc, Aj Gallardo), Great Granddaughter Audriana Duarte & Step Grandchildren, Jeni (Michael) Williams, Lindsay (Troy) Pitts, Step Great Grandchildren, Avery, Jaelyn & Brayden Williams, Dylan, Presley & Jaxson Pitts & many nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews, plus his sister, Eve Goldin & a wonderful Brother & Sister-in-law, Dr. Jack & Leta Kelley also Step Sisters-in-law Barb (Karl) Anders & Mary Lou Mackaluso & Step Brother-in-law, Phil Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Joseph, Nash & Manny Atanay (Mannys wife Dolly) 2 sisters Laura Lozano & Doris Burns, Grandson, David Wayne Lowe Brewer, Brother-in-Law, Judge Howard Goldin & his daughter, Sharon Goldin plus Nephews Louie Lozano & Richard Atanay also Mother & Step Father-in law Marguerite & Walt Lewis & Father & Step Mother-in-law Ellis & Hazel Kelley plus step sister & step brother-in-law Suzanne Nash & Jim Lewis & step sister & brother-in-law Marilyn Lewis & Bob Mackaluso.
He had the pleasure of meeting & having lunch with Leo Carrillo (who played many different movie roles & later was well known as Pancho in the Cisco Kid Series) when he was 12 years old. Also meeting & chatting with Tom Bradley (Mayor of L.A.), Donna Douglas (Ellie Mae Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies series), & Barbara Eden (from I dream of Jeannie).
He graduated from Tulsa Bible College & was a Minister, Church Treasurer & S.S. Superintendent at the Apostolic Assembly Temple "El Siloe" in L.A. Calif.
He also was the Assistant Pastor, S.S. Superintendent, S.S. teacher, Song Leader & Youth Leader at Harvest Tabernacle in L.A. Calif. & S.S. Superintendent at Azusa Tabernacle Church.
His Parents owned 2 grocery stores, one in L. A. & one in Huntington Park.
His Dad had a patent for a Tortilla Maker 12-1-25 which was later sold to the Nabisco Co.
Albert & his wife retired in California & moved to Michigan in 1994. They lived on Lake 21, Delton & had the best neighbors. They attended Thornapple Valley Church & had a great Pastor & wife, Jeff & Ann Arnett plus many, many wonderful friends there & throughout the various areas & states.
Albert & his wife moved back to California 4-18-20 to be near daughter, Cindy. He enjoyed those months before he passed away at home with his wife, daughter & granddaughter Courtney by his side.
He had a great life & a wonderful family. He will be missed. He was loved so much.
Private inurnment will be a Military Honor Ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery.
