William Alphus Crandall

February 13, 1949 — August 18, 2019

William Crandall, 70, of Fontana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18th, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fontana. Bill, as he preferred to be called, had been ill with COPD for years, and developed cancer in his lungs the last year of his life.
He was born on February 13th, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to Homer Crandall and Margie Hill Crandall.
He was very interested in sports, theater arts, cars and photography. He went to Boron High School, where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. He attended Bakersfield Junior College, then on to UCLA for a short time, where he pursued a Theater Arts major.
After high school, he went into the U.S. Air Force, and served as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War. He completed 3 tours of duty during his 4 years of service.
After leaving the Air Force, he worked in the circuit board industry and at Xerox for a time, until he found his calling as a funeral director. He was very compassionate with the families he served, and continued to work in the profession for almost two decades, until health reasons forced him to retire early.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandi, and his two sons, Wes and Scott. He has two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed in the hearts of his family and friends.
Bill will be laid to rest, on September 4th, 2019, at Riverside National Cemetery.
