Sonia Gugliciello

June 30, 1939 — June 9, 2015

Gugliciello, Sonia (Zevin), passed away on June 9, 2015. She passed away quickly after a prolonged illness. In the end she went in the manner she lived life, taking charge, telling the nurse what to do and giving final direction to those around her. She had to have it her way one last time, and she got it! Sonia had a great sense of humor and used it to make the best of times even in bad situations. She could see the humor in even her own declining health and that trait is something she has passed on to all of her children. She leaves behind four grown children, Allen, Florrie, Brad and Matthew; six grandchildren, Andrew, Miranda, Sam, Liz, David and James; her only sister, Marilee Coscarart of Washington; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She also leaves behind her trusty companion of many years her dog Buster, who thankfully found a home where someone will still sneak him pieces of cheese. Sonia had a love of life and would recount her stories of the dance floor and scene at Marmacs and of her close friends she met after returning to California in the 70's (Bill, Rick, Sal, Kathy, Jerry and the gangwho all new her as Sonnie a name her late husband always called her by). She worked for Rockwell for 25 years in Orange County and retired in the late 90's. Her stories are so engrained in all of us that she has left behind that we can all finish any story she every started. Sonia enjoyed her visits to Vegas with family and friends, a good card game, a great new movie to go see, family gatherings, all things Barbara Streisand, any piece of home décor that could be connected to her jungle animal theme, and an Italian dinner with family followed by a hot fudge sundae. She moved around the country quite a bit in her life; born in San Francisco, raised in Burbank, then living twice in New Jersey, as well as Illinois, but Orange County, CA is always where she considered home to be. Sonia was the glue that kept this family connected with phone calls and emails, emails, and more emails. We will all be at a loss without all the political email jokes now! Sonia now joins her parents, Esther and Harry Zevin as well as her husband, Fred Gugliciello. They had better get themselves ready for the life of the party to arrive, set up the card table and Yatzee game! The family will have a small service at home next week where chocolate will be served in her honor! In lieu of flowers, she would have liked donations in her name made to the American Heart Association .
