Robert Whittington Baker

Robert Whittington Baker, 89 passed away peacefully at his home in Redlands October 5, 2012. Born December 14, 1922 to Ralph D. Baker and Charlotte Baker in Seattle, Washington. His childhood was spent in Beverly Hills with his mother and step-father Shelton Potter, Sr., who taught him to fish and love the outdoors while building their cabin at Silver Lake in the Sierra Nevada's in 1933 which is still in the family. He came to Redlands to the University of Redlands and there he met Jean Hentschke before leaving for Naval service where he was commissioned as Lieutenant in the South Pacific. He married Jean October 20, 1945. He became an Interior Decorator and a member of the Redlands Country Club, as golf being his other passion with wife Jean. He is survived by his daughters Debbie Stobaugh and Linda Coffin; granddaughters Lindsey Jean and Courtney Stobaugh; great granddaughters Cheyenne Stubblefield; and half sister Looe DeWar. Preceding him in death are half brother Sheldon Potter, Jr., son Kit Baker and his wife Jean. An informal gathering is planned for November 3rd at 11:30 in the home, at 1901 Verde Vista., Redlands, Ca 92374. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roberts memory to Redlands Fund through the Univ. of Redlands, 909-748-8050, or Redlands Community Hospice.
