Robert Louis Winefer

June 15, 1934 — January 10, 2022

Robert Louis Winefer, 87, of Redlands, CA, passed away January 10, 2022. Bob was born in Ft. Wayne, IN and graduated from Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Bob met his wife, Kathleen Ross, while attending Purdue. They were married for 58 years before her death in 2014.

Bob had a long and successful career in the petroleum equipment industry—first in Seattle then San Jose (Rotary Lift Division), and then in Los Angeles (RH Alexander), Walnut Creek (Tokhiem) and eventually, Denver, where he acquired J-8 Equipment Company, which he owned from 1984 until retirement. His entire career he was closely connected with Tokhiem, a manufacturer of fuel dispensers.

Bob and Katie enjoyed retirement in Tucson, AZ, where they were involved with golf, church, and travel. Bob enjoyed volunteering at the Pima County Courts as a bailiff, where he befriended a judge who eventually lost his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Upon his death, Bob organized many benefits to raise funds to help with ALS research.

After Katie died, Bob moved to Redlands. He met Joanne Medema at Plymouth Village and they married in 2015. The couple often introduced themselves as “newlyweds” to new friends and were both grateful for a second chance at love. Bob could strike up a conversation with anyone, possessed a wry wit, and told jokes relentlessly.

Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan. He spent many hours running and playing basketball, tennis, and golf. He especially enjoyed watching Purdue Boilermaker basketball. He was also considered a mentor in business and to his grandchildren.

He is survived by daughters Darli (Jason) Skaar and Karen (Don) Olson, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Also, Joanne’s family, Ralph (Jan), Paul (Marcia), Eric, and five grandchildren.

Honoring his request there will be no service.
