Michael Leander Hamacher

January 16, 1954 — March 10, 2021

Michael (Mike) Leander Hamacher, age 67, of Hemet, Calif., passed away on March 10, 2021, at Creekside Care Center in Yucaipa, Calif. He was born on January 16, 1954, in Gary, Indiana, the third and youngest son of Wendell Chester Hamacher and Elizabeth Monks Hunter. From a long line of Hoosiers, Mike was proud to be named after his great-grandfather, Leander Monks, who was an Indiana supreme court justice in the early 1900s.
Mike spent his childhood years in the Crown Point, Indiana, area. During high school, he and his family moved to Indianapolis while his father served in the state attorney generals office. He was an animal lover with several dogs over the years, his favorite being a German Shepherd named Babe. Mike also loved old motorcycles and had a business for many years acquiring and selling vintage Indian motorcycles and parts.
Mike decided on a career change in his 50s and went back to school to become a registered nurse. He was motivated to do well and excelled in his studies, graduating in 2006 as president of his nursing class. After graduation, he worked at several U.S. government medical facilities, including the VA hospital in Indianapolis where he supported veterans with addictions. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Indian Health Service in Hemet, Calif., where he worked as a nurse caring for teens in addiction recovery.
Mike was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed researching his family history back to Scotland and Germany. He married Karen Lynn Judd in 1983 and two children were born to this union. They subsequently divorced in 1995.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Elizabeth Hamacher, and his brothers, David Milo Hamacher and John Riley Hamacher. He is survived by his daughter and son, Allyson Hamacher (and husband Jonathan Hubner) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Morgan Hamacher of Gilbert, Arizona, and a granddaughter, Scout Hubner.
Michaels passing reminds us that life is fleeting and family relationships need to be nurtured and cherished. In his memory, enjoy a meal, game, outing, vacation, service opportunity. etc. with your loved ones to keep those connections vibrant and strong.
