Mearce "Dee" Morris

March 22, 1942 — October 7, 2022

Mearce Dee Morris, was born March 22, 1942 to the late George and Mary Wright in Port St. Joe, Florida.

In 1951 Mearce’s family relocated to Bridgewater (a small town better known as Hobbs Town) in New Jersey, to seek more job opportunities and a better education for their children.


Mearce accepted Christ at an early age at St Paul Baptist Church, Somerville, New Jersey. As a youth she enjoyed playing sports and being a Felicitares of the Eastern Stars, she was instrumental in starting a girls social group “The Eldorado Debs” designed to provide a safe haven for girls and to empower them. In 1959 she graduated from Somerville High School, Somerville, New Jersey.


In the latter nineteen sixties, she relocated to California with her young son Ernest Zimmerman Jr. ( who preceded her in death). She was employed at Frito Lay where she met the love of her life Norris Morris. In 1971 they united in holy matrimony and with this union they had one daughter, Kyna Morris Rhodes.

Mearce joined Southern Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Ray L. Weaver Sr., where she became a dynamic inspirational speaker, President of the Usher Board, member of Pastor’s Aide and the Churches Bowling League. She was a dedicated and faithful member.


Mearce was employed at Northrop Grumman in El Segundo, California. She advanced rapidly to becoming a Technical Engineer Supervisor in their Aircraft Division. Upon retirement, Mearce and Norris relocated to Ontario, California.

She continued her walk with God and joined New Joy Baptist Church of Riverside, California, the Dr. Paul S. Munford , Pastor. Where her writing skills were instrumental in creating theatrical productions in the drama ministry. She was an Usher, a Pastor Aide Member and on the Decorating Ministry. Her gifted hands were inimitable. Her creativity and passion for floral arrangements were clearly displayed in her home, as well in the homes of her friends and family and in her church.

Mearce had a bright personality; never met a person she could not carry on a conversation with. Mearce was generous to a fault and easy to get along with. She humbly accepted an array of compliments for her fashionable and glamours style. She took pride in preparing her popular delicious potato salad and red beans and rice for family gatherings. She helped many of her family and friends to relocate to California. Her dedication to her family was beyond measure. Her house bore the mark of what her daughter called the “House of Love”. Her home was always open to any one who was hungry, needed a place to rest or just needed care. She loved to travel. She joined the Red Hat Society, Deer Creek Chapter, Rancho Cucamonga. She really enjoyed traveling and with her Red Hat Sisters. Mearce was an avid Lakers fan she enjoyed going to the games and watching her favorites, Kobe and Magic just to name a few, she loved them all.


Mearce was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will. be missed.

Mearce leaves to cherish her loving husband of 51 years Norris Morris of Ontario, California. Son Ernest Zimmerman (preceded her in death). Daughter Kyna Rhodes(Abdul) of Ontario, California, and Aisha Shelton Adam, Esquire (Scott) of Palos Verdes, California.


Beloved Grandchildren: Ernest Zimmerman Jr, Aaron Zimmerman, Erniesha Zimmerman, Erneka Zimmerman, Patrick Johnson, Abdul (AJ) Rhodes, Aiden Adam, Noah Adam, and London Adam

Beloved Great-Grand Children: King Zimmerman, Kingston Zimmerman, Kamil Douglas, Khari Douglas, Nya Johnson, Ernest Zimmerman, and Ernest Mikel Zimmerman


Beloved Siblings: George Wright of Ontario, California, Lena Leatherwood of Moreno Valley, California, Marynell Williams of Jacksonville, Florida, Litdell Williams (Helen) of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Lucinda Newsome (Willie) Of Nazareth Pennsylvania, Frank W. Simpson of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Diane Cunningham ( James) Of Danville, Virginia, Chester Williams of Easton Pennsylvania. Brother Nearo Williams and Sister Neallane Williams (both preceded her in death), adopted sisters Dorothy Green and Nora Miller (both preceded her in death).


Beloved Sister in Laws: Judy Barre of Ontario California, Marilyn Hurst and Susan Cook of Kenner, Louisianan.

Sister Hood Village: Lena Leatherwood, Latricia Bryant, Dorothy Green., Mattie Green, Mel Perkins, Nora Miller, and Stephanie Samuels, And a host of very special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that will truly miss her.
