Lila Rie Pollick

July 12, 1925 — February 21, 2013

Lila Rie Pollick, 87, of Redlands, California, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Redlands Community Hospital after a short illness. She was born to Sam Wonnell and Clara Douglas Wonnell in Modoc, Kansas, July 12, 1925 on her family farm. She grew up as the youngest of four children. After Kansas her family moved to Colorado for several years. Finally, her family settled in Bellflower, California, where she graduated from Excelsior High School. After graduation she moved to Arlington, VA to study Japanese to become a translator for the government. She returned to California and worked for the Federal Government as a supply clerk at Long Beach Air Force Station. This is where she met her husband, James Edward Pollick. They were married on March 16, 1946 and had five children, Judith Katherine, Patricia Rie, George Albert, Charles Edward and Perry Lee. She was active in her children s school and served from room mother to President of the PTA. She returned to work after her children were mostly grown and worked at the US Forest Service in San Dimas until she retired to care for her husband. She enjoyed participating in several of her grandchildren s and her first great-grandson s lives. After her husband s death in 1991, she lived near her son, George and his wife, Sharon and their four children. She enjoyed watching their family grow and participating in various church and school functions. She lived near them in Spokane, Washington for seven years and then followed them to Omaha, Nebraska where she lived for nine years. On January 1, 2008 she moved to Juneau, Alaska to live with her daughter, Patty and husband John. Her grandson John and his family lived in Juneau so she was able to participate in two of her great-grandson s early years. On February 9, 2012 she returned to California to live in assisted living near her son Perry and his wife Francie. Plymouth Village Health Center in Redlands became her home in September 2012. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles, answer emails and letters, as well as play Scrabble and Phase Ten. One of her friends from Juneau said, I never saw Lila when she wasn t smiling. She is survived by her children; Judith (Randy) Rittenberg of Victorville, CA, Patty (John) George of Juneau, AK, George (Sharon) Pollick of Omaha, NE, Charles Pollick of San Diego, CA, Perry (Francie) Pollick of Yucaipa, CA. Grandchildren: Wendy Rittenberg of Victorville, CA; Heidi (Sean) Panzer of Puyallup, WA; John (April) George of Fairbanks, AK; Susanna (Ross) Morgan of Gypsum, CO; Greg (Ashley) Pollick of Gillette, WY; Geoff Pollick of New York, NY; Jon (Nicole) Pollick of Dunellen, NJ; Katie (Kyle) O Connell of Arlington, TX; Andrea (Mike) LeClerc of Costa Mesa, CA, Kate (Dan) Densmore of Cottonwood, AZ; Kate Pollick Densmore. She is survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Alec Rittenberg; Joshua, Ryan and Caleb George; Ashley Morgan; Riley, Reid, and William Pollick; Lila and Titus Pollick; Chloe and Scarlet LeClerc; Aldan Densmore and Kaeden Densmore. She is also survived by her sister, Betty (Robert) Simley of Laguna Woods, CA, sister-in-law, Lorraine Wonnell of San Jose, CA, numerous nephews and nieces as well as several cousins. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, beloved sister, and loyal friend. She will be missed by family and friends in many states.
