Joseph C. Mujica, Jr.

January 17, 1941 — July 13, 2014

Joseph C. Mujica, Jr. of East Highlands, CA passed away peacefully Sunday July 13, 2014. He was attending Mass with his wife, Margaret, daughter Marie and granddaughter Felicia when the Lord called him home. Joe was born January 17, 1941 to Jose and Consuelo Mujica and was predeceased by them, his brother Robert Mujica and son John Michael Mujica, all from East Highlands, CA (The Ranchito). Joe graduated from Redlands High School in 1958 and enlisted in the US Army, serving as an Advisor in Southeast Asia. Joe and his wife of 50 years Margaret were married June 29, 1963 and celebrated their Golden Anniversary last year with family and friends. Joe was a little league coach and active member of his children's school PTA, and was an active supporter/cheerleader of his granddaughters' softball teams. Joe worked with pride and dedication as a deputy with the San Bernardino County Marshal and later Sheriff's Department from 1966 until his retirement in 2010. Joe was a Founding member and past president of the National Latino Peace Officers' Association. He was a member and Past President of the Gents Organization and was recently the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6476 in Colton, CA. Joe graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration. Joe is survived by his loving wife Margaret, son Joseph Mujica III, daughter Marie Francis Mujica, grandchildren Joseph Mujica IV, Erica Mujica, Maria and Corrina Sanchez, Felicia Gallegos and great-grandchildren Joseph Mujica, V and Lyla Emelia Petska. Joe was a strong supporter of his family and he will be dearly missed. A viewing and recital of the Rosary will be held Tuesday July 22, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Emmerson Bartlett Mortuary in Redlands. Mass of the Catholic faith will be held on Wednesday July 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. John Bosco Church 28991 Merris St, Highland, CA with burial immediately following at Hillside Cemetary in Redlands. A reception will follow after burial.
