In Loving Memory
James Roman Aschenbrener (Jim) passed away on December 20, 2015, at his home in Redlands, CA at the age of 83. A memorial service and funeral mass will be celebrated in his honor at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Monday, December 28th, in Redlands, CA beginning at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of family and friends in celebration of his life will be held at their community clubhouse immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to his favorite charity, Operation Smile 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
Born on May 2, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Roman and Maryanne (Glowienka) Aschenbrenner, Jim graduated Au Gres High School in 1950. Jim began active military service at the Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, TX on May 15, 1952, during the Korean conflict. While stationed in Texas, he began technical training at Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater and met the love of his life, Wanda Lea Dowland of Oklahoma, who has been his partner and life-long friend since. They were married on September 11, 1953 in Wichita Falls, TX. He holds an Associates of Arts Degree in Business and an Associate of Arts Degree in Law.
Jim was a businessman with a work ethic that could be challenged by none, thrived on new challenges and looked for new opportunities while working tirelessly to provide for his family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, Wanda Lea; his son James Roman II and grandsons James Roman III, Joseph and John; his daughter Mary Ellen Alcott and granddaughter Lisa Rene; son Michael David and grandchildren Matthew and Krista; daughter Catherine Ann Toole, husband Ron and grandchildren Trent and Cailee; daughter Julia Lynn, husband Loren Sr., and grandchildren Amber and Loren Ray Jr.; daughter Kristi Jo Lestick, husband Christopher and grandchildren Melissa, Kayla, Joshua and Michael; and 15 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister Joan Moen of Moscow, ID; brother Dennis Aschenbrenner of Bently, MI, and many nieces and nephews of which he has maintained a close relationship over the years.
His generosity and good will are evidenced by the many, many close friends nearby and across the country. He was loved by all for his sense of humor and his enormously kind, caring heart. He truly would have done anything in his power to help anyone. His love for his family and friends was without bounds and it was important to him to instill this in his children. As a father, he was always there and supportive of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren alike.
