Gerald (Gerry) Wallace

April 11, 1943 — January 26, 2019

Gerry Wallace died peacefully January 26, 2019 in Redlands after a short illness. He was born April 11, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, thus beginning his life long support of the Detroit Tigers. Gerry has been lovingly cared for by his life companion Patricia Ashton for several months.
Gerry lived in Redlands for the past 25 years. He received his college degrees from the University of Southern California. Gerry retired from Hemmerling Elementary School in Banning where he taught fifth grade for over 30 years. “Mr. Wallace” was known for his creative, progressive classroom where children thrived.
Gerry was a writer, diarist, photographer, and artist. He published several books and communicated regularly through his books with friends, family, and world leaders about issues of world peace. His correspondence included Noam Chomsky; the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in; Pope Francis; and President Obama.
He published books with his writings and drawings on peace, bilingual alphabet, Shakespeare, Obama’s presidency, and musings and drawings on peace and love. Gerry’s artwork was beautiful, colorful, and fascinating.
Gerry Wallace is survived by his partner and soulmate Patricia Ashton; daughters Elizabeth Ashton and Leah Wallace; grandson Lincoln Ashton; siblings Kathy Andersen, Patty Dingetschweiler, and Thomas Wallace; and many friends and extended family plus his two cats Buster and Fire Smoke.
Gerry’s friends find relief from their loss by vowing to continue his pursuit of world peace. His belief that one person can change the world is demonstrated in his writings and drawings. May his ideals be channeled by all those who cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Gerry’s Life is scheduled for February 16 in Redlands. For information please email [emailprotected]
