Darren James Reader, affectionately known as "dad" or "papa", went to be with Lord on December 23, 2023. He passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was 61 years of age. He was born to David George Reader and Jacqueline Joy Eggleston on October 8, 1962, in San Gabriel, California. He was raised in Southern California where he met the love of his life, Eva Louise Ashton and married in 1992. Together they built a beautiful family over 31 years. They attended Calvary Chapel, camped along the coast of California, and hiked the surrounding mountains. Darren was a skilled mechanic. He spent 17 years at the Long Beach harbor (International Transportation Services, Inc) where he was a respected diesel/chassis mechanic and foreman. His hobbies included a wide range of talents like restoring vintage vehicles, crafting race motors, and collecting antique coke machines. He loved fishing, shooting, backyard barbecues and spending time in the garage. He is survived by his wife, Eva; five children, Amanda (Jon), Andrea (Victor), Dustin, Audrey, and Dylan; three adored grandchildren, Landon, Mikah, and Miles; his father, David; siblings, Victoria, Robert, and Elizabeth; as well as several nieces and nephews. Darren's absence will be felt by many, including extended family, a circle of friends and colleagues. If you had the privilege of knowing him, you knew he went above and beyond to help in time of need. Above all, Darren loved his family. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. We take comfort in knowing this truth, "absent from the body, present with the Lord."
