Charles Robert Scribner

December 3, 1951 — July 18, 2020

Charles Robert Scribner, age 68, passed away on July 18, 2020 in Moreno Valley, California. Charles was born on December 3, 1951 to Gordon and Bethany (Hutchings) Scribner in Berrien Springs, Michigan. In 1971, Charles graduated from Andrews Academy in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Later that year, he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston and, later, honorably discharged. Charles attended Fletcher School of Nursing in North Carolina, earning his Registered Nursing diploma in 1977. He lived in Scottville, Michigan for years before moving to California. Charles worked in many hospitals throughout Michigan including Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, MI and Lakeshore Community Hospital in Shelby, MI. He was a very caring and good nurse.
Charles had many passions in life. He loved the outdoors; hunting, nature photography, gardening, stargazing, and storm watching. He was a talented artist; woodworker, craftsman, painter, and musician. He would often speak of his time in Idaho, where he lived in the 1980s, panning for gold and collecting rocks. However, his greatest passion was racing. He raced stock cars during the 1980s and was a huge NASCAR fan. He knew all the NASCAR tracks and all the good old boys of racing.
We pray Charles has found peace. We will remember him as the sunburnt Cowboy in his black leather jacket, favorite cowboy boots, black cowboy hat, his self made walking cane close by, playing songs on his black Alvarez guitar, and telling his stories.
Charles will be forever remembered by his children Alyssa Scribner (Sultan Abduljabbar) and Tristan Scribner, the mother of his children and her son Nanette Kibbey-Scribner and Logan Kibbey, his grandson Hussain Abduljabbar, his father Gordon Scribner, his siblings Janet (Fred) Horn and Kenneth (Kay) Scribner, and his sister-in-law Cora Jean (George) Haley. He will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Bethany Scribner and his brother James Scribner.
No services are planned at this time due to Covid-19. Charles ashes will be laid to rest next to his beloved mother in South Wayne Cemetery, Dowagiac, MI and in the mountains of Idaho at a later date. Funeral arrangements were prepared at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Yucaipa, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mason County Recovery, 3292 Ironwood Drive, Ludington, Michigan in memory of Charles Scribner.
