Charles Andrew Gover

Charles Andrew Gover (Chuck) was born March 12, 1921 to William and Edna Gover in St. Louis, Missouri. He died on December 16, 2011 at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, CA. He attended school in Overland, MO. At 16, he joined the Army (prior to WWII).While in the Army he married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Hahn, and started a family. When WWII broke out, Chuck joined the U.S. Navy. He was a Metal Smith 3rd class and was assigned as a gunner on the LST, USS Sorpidon, a landing craft. As such, he participated in a number of landings in the Pacific. After the war he worked at the aircraft plant again and at Trailways Bus Co. as mechanic. He took various correspondences course and became a master mechanic. In 1951, he moved the family to Baldwin Park, California. By this time there were six children, Janet Price (Mark), Timothy Gover (Kathleen), Patricia Maiorana (Joseph), Peggy Brecheisen (Joe), Charles Gover (Maria) and Kathryn Daudel (Theodore). In California he worked at Eastside Brewery, Pacific Intermountain Express and then made a career at Los Angles Dept. of Water and Power. In retirement he and Margaret moved to Yucaipa, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Francis Cabrini Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and his daughters, Janet and Peggy. In 2007, he moved into Atria Del Rey, an assisted living facility in Rancho Cucamonga. He is survived by his two sons and two daughters, eighteen grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and a number of great-great grandchildren. He will be truly missed. There will be a Memorial Service at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in San Dimas on Thursday, December 22nd at 12:00 noon. Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
