Carmen Herrera Mendoza

Carmen Herrera Mendoza, age 81, passed away peacefully April 15, 2020 after a long illness. She was born February 3, 1939 in Redlands, California to Joe and Guadalupe Herrera. She married her high school sweetheart Charles Mendoza in December of 1961, and was the proud mother of three sons, Charles, Joseph, and Robert.

For many years Carmen worked at Smiley Elementary School in Redlands as a playground supervisor. She was a member of Sacred Heart/Holy Name of Jesus parish and a proud sponsor of Redlands High School Class of 1957. Her favorite role, however, was the role of homemaker, caring for her husband, three sons, and all of their friends.

Carmen was an avid supporter of Redlands youth sports and loved to watch her sons and grandchildren compete in baseball, football, soccer, volleyball and swimming. She had a creative spirit and loved to crochet and knit blankets for the people she loved. In her later years she enjoyed completing word searches and watching her favorite telelvision programs.

Carmen is survived by her husband Charlie; her three sons and their wives Chuck and Julie Mendoza of Redlands, Joe Mendoza of Union City, Robert and Elizabeth Mendoza of Yucaipa; grandchildren, Katie Mendoza of Charleston, SC, Carly, Allison and Matthew Mendoza of Redlands, Sabrina and Samantha Mendoza of Yucaipa, Josiah Mendoza of Livermore, and Tatiana Mendoza Garcia of Discovery Bay, California; two great grandchildren Tommy and Charlie Garcia of Discovery Bay, and her many siblings, nephews and nieces.
