Barbara Joy (Foote) Gerth Sunday, March 20th, 1932 – Saturday, January 21st, 2023.
Preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Clifford Foote Sr.; brothers, Clifford Jr. and
Robert; and her husband, Winfred Gerth. She is loved and missed by her daughter, Rebekah
[Steve] Adams (Pacoima, California), son Andrew [Maria] Gerth (Austin, Texas), grandchildren:
Ian [Fiancée, Katie], Rachel “Peanut” [Fiancé, Tyler], Ellie, Kate, and great-grandson, Duncan.
Barbara was born at home in Chicago, Illinois, the first daughter of Josephine (Hoort) and
Clifford Foote Sr. She attended Fenger High School in Chicago, where she participated in several
clubs, her favorite of which was the Glee Club, and graduated with the January class of 1950.
Barbara began her working career as a secretary with several large firms in Chicago. At Morgan
Park Military Academy, she served as the secretary to the Commandant, and in 1953 this is
where she met her future husband, Winfred Gerth. In December of 1954 they were married,
and their marriage lasted 40 years. They made their home in the Beverly-Morgan Park section
of Chicago. Barbara was also an enthusiastic volunteer. She served thousands of hours between
the Auxiliary of Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois and with her congregation at St. John the
Divine Lutheran Church in Chicago. After the death of her husband, she relocated, first to
Arlington Heights, Illinois and then to join her children in California. Barbara was an avid fan of
classic movies and old Hollywood. She enjoyed visiting the landmarks and taking the studio
tours while in southern California. Barbara is loved and will be greatly missed. The family
wishes to thank the caring staff of West Hills Assisted Living who provided wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 2nd at 1PM at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church,
436 South Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90212.
