Alfred Stephen Steve Covarrubias

June 4, 1955 — December 21, 2020

Steve Covarrubias passed away on December 21, 2020 at the age of 65.
Alfred Stephen "Steve" Covarrubias was born June 4, 1955, in Southern California, the son of Alfred Mendez Jr. and Esther Covarrubias (Garcia). He was raised and lived in Southern California. He is survived by his wife Gayle, his sons Aaron and Lee, his mom Esther, and his three siblings Debra, David, and Rebecca. Steve was the oldest of four.
Steve - beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, pastor, theologian, writer, musician and most recently a bus driver for his local school district where he brought joy to the children he bussed. Stories of the humorous interactions he had with the children he served were absolutely hilarious. But that was Steve - he could always tell a story that would immerse you, draw you in, make you laugh or make you cry. His storytelling and imaginative nature were a huge part of who he was. And his ability to tell the greatest story, the gospel of Jesus Christ, about the Lord he loved and served, he did with passionate conviction. He was a man who lived what he believed and whose desire was to share this overflowing joy and faith in Christ with everyone.
His life was dramatically changed when he became a Christian more than 40 years ago. Leaving a life pursuit as a singer songwriter in the rock music genre, he put down the guitar and picked up the Bible. It would be a year later when the Lord would call him to the ministry of worship and use his musical experience to serve Jesus. Throughout his Christian journey, he has been a worship minister, youth group leader, teaching pastor and has organized and been involved in missions and community outreach. As a graduate of Trinity Bible College and Seminary in Indiana, he earned a B.A. degree in Biblical Theology with a concentration in Christian Philosophy and Apologetics. He has authored three books The Coming, The MESS8GE, and The Divine Gaze. Steve loved to study and teach Gods Word, read Puritan and Reformed literature, mentor younger men in the faith, travel, hike, and play guitar. His desire was to spur the body of Christ, encouraging fellow Christians to grow in faith and love for the Savior.
Steve will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
